With a lengthening list of projects and a commitment to diversify the city’s housing stock, Terramark Urban Homes has closed on an historic East Side site to build its new headquarters here in San Antonio.
The residential developer’s new headquarters is slated for 901 Pine St. in the former Childress Memorial Church Of God In Christ’s Fellowship Hall, a structure that remains standing despite a massive fire in 2013 that burned the rest of the property to the ground.
Terramark Urban Homes is planning to move its permanent operations into a former church facility at 901 Pine St. following extensive renovations alongside a residential development.
Terramark — previously based in Sugarland, Texas — is still months away from starting work on its new offices, but has already made the permanent move to San Antonio as the number of units it adds to the city’s residential pipeline continues to climb.
And with its townhome developments scattered throughout the East Side, Tobin Hill, Terrell Hills, Southtown, Lavaca and Midtown that are about to start or are currently under construction, as well as sideline projects such as its role as the general contractor for Rising Barn’s first Dignowity Hill single-family home, the company’s commitment to San Antonio is rising at a similar speed.
Charlie Turner, Terramark’s CEO, told me the company is constantly experimenting with new models, areas and price points as it sticks to its “pioneering” roots.
“We’re trying to offer more variety in the marketplace by doing something different,” he said.
And with a majority of the units at Terramark’s projects selling out before construction even begins, the company is clearly in front of the trend — a quality that will be made evident at its 901 Pine St. development.
The site itself is roughly 1.7 acres, and Terramark Chief Operating Officer John Cooley said the developer is working with architects “to see what plan to put together.”
However, those discussions are heading in a direction that will include the renovation of the Fellowship Hall to house Terramark’s operations along with a combination of townhome and live/work units on the northern end of the parcel to serve as a transition between the commercial area and the rest of the neighborhood.
